Iredell County Real Estate

Iredell County is located in North Carolina. As of 2000, the population was 122,660. It is a major hub of NASCAR racing, with many race shops located in the county. Although northern Iredell County has retained much of its rural character, the southern half of the county is experiencing rapid population growth, largely due to the popularity of the Lake Norman area for residents of nearby Charlotte, North Carolina’s largest city. Prices of homes for sale in Iredell County vary greatly depending on the properties proximity to Lake Norman. We specialize in helping buyers purchase foreclosures in Iredell County.

Lake Norman, in Iredell County, was created between 1959 and 1964 as part of the construction of the Cowans Ford Dam by Duke Energy, it is the largest manmade body of fresh water located in North Carolina. Lake Norman is sometimes referred to as the “inland sea”; it offers 520 miles of shoreline and a surface area of more than 50 square miles.

Lake Norman provides electricity to the Piedmont region of the Carolinas. It powers the generators at the hydroelectric station at Cowans Ford and is used by Marshall Steam Station and McGuire Nuclear Station to cool the steam that drives their turbines. The lake supplies water to Lincoln County, Iredell Co. Mooresville, Charlotte, and other towns in Mecklenburg County, particularly Davidson and Huntersville.
